The Crescendo 2.0 arrives in a binhex encoded and stuffed file, CrescendoMac20.sit.hqx (this name may be different). After decoding and unstuffing this file using Stuffit Expander or similar freeware, you should have at least the following files:

System Requirements
This version of Crescendo requires the following:
Sytem 7.1 or later
Quicktime 2.1 or later
Netscape Navigator, version 2.0 or greater
Installation
Navigator 2.0x:
To install Crescendo, copy the file Crescendo 2.0 to the Netscape Plug-ins folder. Remove previous versions of Crescendo and/or Crescendo PLUS. If Navigator is running, quit Navigator & relaunch. Crescendo is installed!
Navigator 3.0x (Atlas):
To install Crescendo, copy the file Crescendo 2.0 to the Netscape Plug-ins folder. Remove previous versions of Crescendo and/or Crescendo PLUS. If Navigator is running, quit Navigator & relaunch. From the General Preferences/Helper window, scroll down and select and edit the last two LiveAudio Data types (they should be audio/x-midi and audio/midi) so that they are directed to Crescendo 2.0. Netscape Navigator has a folder called "Plug-ins" in the same Folder as the Netscape Navigator application. A good way to find this is to use the File/Find menu item in the Finder, and search for "Plug-ins." This is the folder where you should move the file Crescendo 2.0. If you have two or more Plug-ins folders, you may have more than one copy of Navigator, and you should move a copy of Crescendo 2.0 into each of these Plug-ins folders.
Testing Crescendo! - How to verify a correct installation!
1. To verify that Navigator has found Crescendo, launch Navigator and select the "About Plug-ins" menu item in the Apple Menu. This shows a listing of all the file MIME types which your installed plug-ins recognize. You should see at least three entries for Crescendo, as follows:
application/x-midi
audio/x-midi
audio/midi
audio/x-mid
If you see these, you have installed Crescendo in the right place, and it's ready to go.
2. From within Navigator, open the Crescendo Test.html file using the menu item "File/Open File", and browsing your way to the Crescendo folder. This web page will load Crescendo, and you should hear music! (If you don't, the page has help for you.) From this page, there are links to more pages which you can use to test and explore Crescendo.

Authoring Information
If you are a web page author, make sure you leave room for the Crescendo Control Panel or some kind of link back to the Crescendo web site (http://www.liveupdate.com/crescendo.html) on your site, so you viewers can also be listeners. A good line of text to go with this link is "This site best heard with..."

Uninstalling Crescendo!
Remove the Crescendo 2.0 file from the plugins directory, and restart Navigator.

For Web Authors:
Several bitmaps are included for web authors. The sizes which Crescendo is best viewed at are:
1) 200 x 50 (width x height) for the control panel
2) 82 x 18 for the Crescendo Button
3) 45 x 50 for the LiveUpdate Button
4) 16 x 16 for the Note Button
The popup menu can be used for control in all bitmaps.
Web authors can change the background and text colors of the bitmaps (although the default bitmap looks best).
